In 2008, Hoover resident and U.S. Navy veteran Mark Davis, a member of Team Corvette Alabama, had a simple idea: rent Talladega Superspeedway for a day, let car lovers run laps on the most famous banking in racing, and give the proceeds to veterans. He called it Vettes4Vets.
Word spread from club to club. Within ten years the track day was drawing hundreds of drivers from car clubs across more than a dozen states, and the program had given hundreds of thousands of dollars to veteran causes.
In 2016, Hendrick Chevrolet Hoover offered to cover the full cost of renting the track, without being asked. That gift means every dollar a driver pays goes to veterans. The partnership grew into what is now Hendrick Driven for Veterans, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit carrying the mission forward.
